"The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the Black women. The most neglected person in America is the Black woman"
In this racial climate, time of revolution, chaotic time, Black people deserve projects made for them that showoff their beauty, joy, talent, and contribution to our world. However, I am one person, doing a project at a time, so I started off with Black women. Most recently, we have been reminded of the trauma Black women experience, and how being vulnerable and beautiful isn't always part of our character. However, we always have to be strong, empathetic, and support everyone else.
This project, "Forgotten Glow" is here to challenge that. The goal was to get a few Black girls around Chicago, and give them the spotlight to remind the world how beautiful they are.
This project was inspired by Beyonce's "Black is King" and Kelly Rowland's "Coffee" music video. I appreciated the creativity, the beauty, and the impact those empowering projects had on its audience. I wanted to do the most I could to have a similar impact. I want Black women to feel acknowledged, empowered, and confident, through these photos. They deserve it.
